Never thought I'd own a Uniden
My V1 is 18 years old and my STiR+ is two. Both suffer from inability to handle BSM on nearby cars . With proper programming, I can live with the inconvenience. After reading through the testing results on the Uniden R3, I decided to get on and run it along side my STiR+. Its been in for almost a week now so I can say that I am impressed with the filters so far and I am running it on HWY mode. The manual lockouts for local grocery and drug stores has been simple and effective. I love running it in dark mode and only seeing it light up when I need to see it. I eagerly await my next road trip in anticipation of my own R3 vs M3. The programming options on this unit seem so completely thought out and the upcoming firmware updates will be great. I am very happy with this unit especially at this price point. This price even includes free updates for red light cams and speed cams!! Uniden appears to be interested in making this unit a must have for those of us born with lead foot. I welcome the actual delivery of firmware updates as I am still waiting for the first update from Beltronics/Escort. Thank you RDF and Vortex Radar for the heads up on this fantastic unit!

    Hard to Beat
Range is INCREDIBLE...Filtering is the best I have seen!!! This is so good I have to give it a 5 star rating. Now for just 2 annoyances....really want AUTO LOCKOUT but I know that is a Escort patent for now. (not Uniden's fault) and the screen can be tough to read in heavy heavy sunlight. But a fault of the Max360 as well. So if your wondering how I compare this to others - here is my ranking and yes I have owned ALL of these: 1) Uniden R3 2) Valentine1 (latest w/K fighter) 3) Radenso XP 4) Max360 - nice features but shut up already with the false alarms! I feel the build quality, packaging and overall feature set on the R3 is superb. Glad they gave a SUPER CUP for mounting but wish it was more refined like Escorts. At first I thought the Ka band alerting sound would be annoying but its not...already over it. Radenso's alerting is worse for the sounds. Of course I am like many and say no one beats Valentine arrows!! But hey for Uniden to elevate to the SUPER CAR of detector ranks - Bravo. I have had many awesome Uniden Scanners so I knew they had it in them. GREAT UNIT!!

    Value and Performance Winner
After being a die hard Valentine 1 fan for 24 years, and customizing my install with several add-ons and apps to quiet it down, I was looking for a long range option for highway cruising. Initially I thought I would go with the Escort Redline International, but then Tom, BRD and Uniden came along and engineered something quite impressive. Huge range and excellent filtering are diametrically opposed in electronics. But somehow the propeller heads in Texas (Uniden) managed to create, quite possibly, the best radar detector on the market. Engaging enthusiasts to beta test the platform and firmware was the best thing and manufacturer in this business has done. And it shows in the results. By enthusiasts, for enthusiasts. This thing is so quiet around town, that I have to double check it occasionally to make sure the power is on. I love the forthcoming free firmware and RLC/Speed Camera database updates. If I could have my cake and eat it too, I'd love to see an R5 with a rear horn and arrows, Gatso/MRCD detection, an add-on heads down display, and possibly an app for offline (non-driving) customization. Tom and BRD did a phenomenal job getting a manufacturer to listen to the wants of people who know RDs, securing a quantity of these to get them to market quickly, and shipping them as fast as possible. They are probably in my top 10 favorite companiesof which I am a customer.

    Great Product
So far I love this thing. Great range and very quiet. The option to quiet ride K band is fantastic. I own a redline as well. This performs on par or better than the redline but much better K band filtering.

    Mr.
Awesome detector. Quiet. Long range. Could benefit from louder volume. Other than that..perfect.
