The clip works great for those situations where having the detector on the visor is better (or you are moving the detector around to different vehicles. Also good to get the detector higher up for a longer sight line.

My wife both have a Passport 9500xi. The clip that came with with, no longer holds the radar in place. This is a great alternative. Holds the Radar in place firmly. Great purchase.
