Are radar detectors legal in my state? Below is the current status available to us but always check your current state laws for any recent changes
United States Radar Detector Laws
Radar detectors are completely legal to use in non-commercial vehicles.
Virginia and Washington DC are the only 2 areas in the United States that
currently have a ban on the use of radar detectors. There is also a federal law
banning the use of radar detectors in any commercial vehicle over 10,000 pounds.
Radar detectors are also illegal on any military base.
United States Laser Jammer Laws
Currently there are no US federal laws prohibiting the use of laser jammer's but some states have passed their own laws against jamming police laser guns.
Laser Jammer's are illegal in the following states:
California
Colorado
Illinois
Minnesota
Oklahoma
South Carolina
Tennessee
Texas - Illegal Effective 9/1/11
Utah
Virginia
Canada Radar Detector Laws
Not Legal in the following: Newfoundland & Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, the Yukon Territory, the Northwest Territories
Legal in the following: Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan
